Discover Fish Oil Health Benefits

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

An interesting Fish Oil health benefit was recently written about in the Cambridge Journal of Epidemiology.  Studies in the past had shown that eating oily fish or taking fish oil supplements were beneficial for reducing pain and improving mobility in patients with rheumatoid arthritis or RA.

In the recent study, researchers concluded that it might also reduce the risk of developing RA.  When you know a little bit about the subject, it all makes sense.

Treating RA has been a challenge for doctors.  Understanding the cause was the biggest challenge.  It has been classified as an autoimmune disease for a number of years, meaning that the body’s immune system is involved.

Inflammation is one of the immune system’s first reactions to infection, illness or injury.  Fluids, white blood cells and other compounds rush to the battle scene.  The fluids cause swelling, which helps to protect the affected area from further injury.  Eventually, as the wound starts to heal or the infection clears up, the swelling goes down.  Signals are sent out to let the body know that there is no further need for inflammation.

One of the fish oil health benefits that have been recently described is that it stimulates the production of those anti-inflammatory signals.  For at least a decade, we have known that omega-3 fatty acids play a role in reducing inflammation, throughout the body.  Scientists are still learning how they do that.

In RA and some other autoimmune diseases, inflammation occurs without cause.  As it continues, it causes damage to the joints and can eventually cause deformities.  Trying to figure out why the immune system would turn against healthy cells has been more than challenging.  There is no explanation.

There are, however, some interesting theories, having to do with a person’s diet.  Some foods contribute to the production of inflammatory hormones, while others contribute to the production of less inflammatory ones.  Both are still used by the body in many of the same ways.  But, when the more inflammatory hormones are produced consistently, they start to damage the body.

System-wide inflammation can occur, not just in the joints, but in the arteries, the digestive system and in all of the cells of the body.  This type of inflammation is deadly.  It contributes to heart disease and cancer, our two biggest killers.

In addition to the RA study mentioned above, research has shown that there is a reduced risk of allergies, which are also caused by an over-reactive immune system, asthma, which is caused by unnecessary inflammation of the bronchial passages, and heart disease, because of reduced inflammation in the arteries.  Those aren’t even all of the fish oil health benefits, just the highlights.

How much fish oil should I give my cat?

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

One of my kitties has dry, flaky skin, and his fur is often matted. I have gotten better kitty food for him recently, and was recommended to included a fish oil supplement. I bought some capsules with 1200 mg. Should I give him one of these capsules to him daily?

Talk to your vet to see because it depends on the cat. If the fur is matted maybe you should brush it more or take it to the groomers. One of my friends takes Fish Oil tablets, but I can’t talk to her because she is in Canada. Her skin looks good.

What are some vegetarian alternatives to fish oil supplements?

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

I am a dancer and would normally take a fish oil supplement or just eat fish for my joints and all that. But now that I’m vegetarian, I’m looking for animal-friendly options to get the same benefits for dancing. Suggestions? Anyone found something that really works?

flax, flax, flax, okay, ya might be tired of this answer, but I’ll add some new useful tips for it:

For omega-3 & phytoestrogens,Take two tablespoons of FRESHLY GROUND flax SEEDS per day (a regular coffee grinder is works great). So how exactly does one "take" flax meal? Sprinkle it on cereal, blend it into a smoothie, etc.

Keep in refrigerator/freezer.

Avoid the flax oil as it goes rancid quickly & who knows how long it’s been sitting on the store shelf.

Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 as well.

Get 10 min. exposure to direct sunlight everyday for vit. D.

Dance for joy in your health saavy decision to avoid Fish Oil:
Cod liver oil contains toxic levels of vitamin A, plus fish in general contain contaminants.

Should i take Fish oil and Flaxseed oil together, i want to help improve my skin and overall health?

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

I have heard flaxseed is great if you have dry skin, which i suffer badly from and i’ve heard that fish oil is great for your skin and many other aspects of your health.

I bought Fish Oil and flaxseed oil capsules today but now im wondering about any side affects!!!

Any advice? =)
So its fine to take Flaxseed (2 capsules of 1000mg’s) and Fish oil (2 capsules 1000mg’s) together every day?

Buy the fish oil that already have Flaxseed oil in it. I use "Now Omega 3-6-9". There’s other products. You can buy the dark flax seeds and sprinkle them in your food also. The flaxseed have those Omega 3 & 6; clears up the pores in your skin.
Definitely good to use the product. Also, get you a decent Vitamin E cocoa butter and multivitamin. It’ll help out in the long run.

how do you remove fish oil smell from clothes?

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

we had to rub cod oil on my daughter’s skin as an anti-inflammatory emollient but now I can’t get the fish smell out of her bed sheets and clothes. It’s so disgusting.

soak them in detergent and water for a half hour, then wash them with more detergent.

If that doesn’t work, buy new ones. There’s only so much time and effort one can place on a task before it’s no longer worth bothering.

When do you start feeling the full effects of fish oil for depression?

Posted under Fish Oil Benefits

I’ve been taking fish oil for 3 days now and really haven’t felt much different. I noticed when I took 2 fish oil soft gels close to each other that i started to feel really drowsy and had a stomach ache. I take 3 or 4 fish oil softgels a day. How long does it take for the full effects to kick in to see if it actually works well?

I have never heard of Fish Oil being used for depression. I take it for heart and joint health. You should probably talk to a DR before using it for depression.
