Take Your Pick of Cholesterol Supplements

Posted under Fish Oil Supplement

An active lifestyle and a balanced diet is what people with or without high levels of cholesterol should put as high priority in their list. It is actually not just about the danger of having it, but it is more on practicing a healthier lifestyle and preventing putting your life at risk. Some people who have high cholesterol levels take high cholesterol treatment while others prefer cholesterol lowering supplements.

One of the most famous cholesterol-lowering products is the red yeast rice that was used in China and Japan for many years before it was introduced to the US. It has been proven to reduce the amount of ldl or the bad cholesterol in the body. The red yeast rice is found in many cholesterol drugs. It is somehow more effective and more natural as it lowers the levels of ldl and triglycerides without the side effects that statin drugs have. A major one being its affect on the liver in the long run.

Policosanol is an extract that comes from sugar cane. This extract is actually studied in medical science and is proven to lower the bad cholesterol and raising the good ones by controlling the liver in producing the substance. It is shown in studies that it can lower cholesterol levels by up to 20 percent.

Extracts of green tea and artichoke have the same benefits. While green tea has its active ingredient polyphenols, artichoke has the cynarin which speeds up the secretion of cholesterol out of the body.

Guggulipid extract is proven useful in curing a number of ailments. It India it is a tried and tested formula for centuries. Products with berberine also help, with Oregon grape and barberry containing such substance.

Omega 3 acids which can be found in fish and Fish Oil are also among the list of safest and more popular cholesterol supplements. Flax seed oil also contains omega 3 acids and is a safe option besides fish.

Sterols and stanols in plants also reduce the ldl but without any effect on the hdl or the good cholesterol. However, research studies show that people taking medication show more improvement while taking stanols and sterols.

Some products are proven while others are still undergoing further studies to test their effects. Nevertheless, if you have high cholesterol you shouldn’t take a cholesterol supplement without informing your doctor. This is so that the doctor knows what you are taking and he can see if it blends well and make improvements to your health rather than contradicting with other medications that he may prescribe and causing other health problems.

Have a Natural Conception Through Superfood

Posted under Fish Oils

In both the female and male body, the balance of hormones has to be just right for conception to occur and for pregnancy to proceed. Nutrients that are in excess or that are in depletion can throw off balance and disrupt the pregnancy process. When we can choose whole foods for our diet, we are increasing our chances of obtaining the most nutrients we need. Whole foods include fruits, fresh vegetables, unrefined grains, beans, nuts, seeds, eggs, and small whole fish. It’s important to make sure you’re choosing healthy whole superfoods that have an abundant supply of each of the following vitamins and minerals.

B-complex vitamins need to be replenished all the time, as they are water soluble and passed out of the body with urination. Vitamins B6 and B12 are particularly important for fertility and hormonal function. Fortified cereals, fortified soy-based meat substitutes, baked potatoes with skin, bananas, light-meat chicken and turkey, eggs, and spinach are all great sources of B6 and beef, clams, mussels, crabs, salmon, poultry, soybeans, and fortified foods have healthy amounts of B12. Folic Acid, also known as folate, is essential for the production of genetic material in conjunction with vitamin B12. The body cannot store Folic Acid so it must be replenished regularly. It is found naturally in dark green leafy vegetables, apricots, avocados, carrots, egg yolks, liver, melons, whole grains, and yeast’s.

Zinc is an essential component of genetic material and plays an important role in the fertility of men (affecting sperm count) and women. Zinc is vital to healthy cell division, so healthy zinc levels are essential at conception. Zinc occurs naturally in oats, rye, almonds, pumpkin seeds and peas.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) work on every system of the body and are essential for healthy hormone production. EFA’s can prevent blood from clotting inappropriately which can be helpful to women who have suffered from recurrent miscarriages (if clotting was an issue). They are primarily found in Fish Oils. Vitamin E is an antioxidant. Low vitamin E levels can be a cause for subfertility in men and women. Found in wheat germ cereal, sunflower seeds, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, brown rice, eggs, milk, organ meats, soy beans and sweet potatoes.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, helpful to sperm production and may play a role in healthy ovulation. Vitamin C is essential to the normal healthy functioning of many systems in the human body. Excellent sources include blackcurrants, raw red peppers, guavas and citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits. Other good sources include strawberries, kiwifruit, broccoli and Brussel sprouts.

Iron aids in the production of red blood cells and carries oxygen around our bodies. The body can lose iron through periods, childbirth or blood loss (including blood donation). Leafy green vegetables, beans, shellfish, red meat, poultry, and soy food products are all good sources of iron.

Vitamin A is an antioxidant essential at conception for the developing embryo. Natural sources include carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, and spinach.

Is There a Cure for Arthritis Pain?

Posted under Fish Oil Supplement

If you take paracetemol or an anti-inflammatory drug when you suffer from pain, you’re not alone. A 2005 study, reported in the American Journal of Therapy, showed paracetemol was the most acceptable form of analgesic drug for two-thirds of patients with osteoarthritis pain.

Another study on behalf of the International Arthritis Action Group, found 47 percent of Australians in pain do not use medication because they’re worried about side effects, or feel they don’t know enough about the risks and benefits of treatment. Some do try medication but if it doesn’t work they’re reluctant to discuss an alternative with their GP or specialist. Often they give up searching for help and assume they have to live with soreness and pain. Not so.

Paracetemol may be effective for a first line of defence, but for long term relief it may be worth considering these 7 natural food and supplement options.

OMEGA 3 FISH OIL.

Fish Oils are derived from deep sea fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies and tuna. They provide a rich source of the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. According to Dr Ronald Klatz, president of American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine, omega 3s are excellent anti inflammatories, which may be beneficial in the pain relief of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Omega 3 fatty acids may also be taken in capsule form and can be beneficial when combined with glucosamine sulfate. One helps to build and support cartilage, the other works to ease inflammation.

COOKED VEGETABLES AND OLIVE OIL.

A diet loaded with cooked vegetables and olive oil, may help reduce the pain, swelling and discomfort of rheumatoid arthritis, according to a study from Harvard School of Public Health and reported in American School of Clinical Nutrition.

Your body makes bad prostoglandins that cause swelling and pain and good prostoglandins that prevent swelling and pain. Aspirin and other arthritis pain medicines contain drugs that block the bad prostoglandins.

Cooked vegetables and olive oils contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated oils that are used by your body to make the good prostoglandins that block pain and swelling. They are also loaded with antioxidants.

ASHWAGHANDA ROOT.

This herb is used extensively in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. It stimulates immunity and as an antioxidant, reduces cell damaging free radicals.
Its anti inflammatory properties have been shown to be helpful for the pain of arthritis.

LEMON BALM.

An important antioxidant containing a high concentration of phenols, chemicals that fight cell damaging toxins. It can help decrease the pain of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL.

The active ingredient in this plant is gamma linoleic acid [GLA] an omega 6 fatty acid. Supplementing with evening primrose oil may help in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis pain. Taken by many women to relieve period pain, it could also cut the chances of women with breast cancer having a relapse, according to an American study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

SULPHUR RICH FOODS.

Sulphur is vital for the repair and rebuilding of bones, cartilage and connective tissue. Sulphur rich foods include cabbage, onion, broccoli, garlic, leak and eggs.
Sulphur can be taken in supplement form as MSM {Methyl sulfonyl methane} and is often included in formulas that include glucosamine and chondroitin. According to Dr Ronald M. Lawrence, of the UCLA School of Medicine and Founding Member of the American Association for the Study of Pain, people with joint issues often lack the proper amount of sulphur to let the body heal itself.

WILLOW BARK.

White willow bark is a natural aspirin. According to naturopath Ron Gellatley, it reduces swelling and pain without any side effects. Try drinking away stiffness and pain with a cup of hot willow bark tea. To brew the tea, add one teaspoon of dried willow bark to a cup of boiled water. Steep for 5 minutes, then strain before drinking.

Facts you Should Know About Omega-3

Posted under Fish Oil Supplements

Omega-3 oils are the lubricating fluids of your joints, the balancing fluids of your heart, skin and pancreas, the force for the battle against cancers and the fluid to keep the brain tuned.

But for these healthy truths to happen to your body the Omega-3 oils must reach the parts of your body where they are needed most.

The healing Omega-3 Oils must reach the “LACTEALS”- the lymph vessels that will help carry the life saving oils to your joints, heart, brain and other important parts of your body.

How do you do this?

When Omega-3 oils are taken on an empty stomach, they are carried by the lacteals until they are later absorbed and assimilated within the body.

These lymph vessels (the lacteals) then transport the oil to a major oil-collecting depot within your system known as the “cisterna chyli”. Then it is picked up by the thoracic duct and the oils are delivered into the lymphatic system and sent to locations in your body where they are most needed.

By taking Omega-3 you are “loading” the chylomicrons with vitamin D, Vitamin A and Vitamin F (The essential fatty acids). You are using systematic circulation to carry these curing oils and vitamins to the very places in your body that they are needed.

In effect you are able to bypass the greedy liver and go straight to where the oils are needed.

This process of absorbing the Omega-3 oils works best when you don’t drink water with your meals. If you omit water, your digestive system can deliver approximately 90 per cent of the omega oils to your lacteals. The capillaries will capture the remaining 10 per cent.

But we need to drink water, you may ask.

You are 100% right.

Seventy percent of the planet is covered with water. Eighty percent of your body is made up of water. What do you think a large percentage of your diet should contain?

You need to make certain that 70 percent of your diet is made up of foods that are rich in water. That means fresh fruits or vegetables, or their freshly squeezed juices.

Some people recommend drinking from 8-12 glasses of water a day to “Flush Out The System.” Do you know how crazy that is? In the first place most of our water isn’t that great and no matter what water you drink, you can’t cleanse your system by drowning it.

The amount of water you drink should be dictated by thirst. Instead of trying to flush your system by flooding it with water, all you have to do is eat foods that are naturally rich in water.

And your valuable Omega-3 Oils will not get flushed away through your liver, but reach the parts of your body that need them, naturally.

The secret of taking your Omega-3 oils and sending them to cure your body is to use “Esterified Hydrolysed Oil.” Simply stated, mix your Omege-3 Ester with a healthy juice cocktail, breaking down the oil globules, emulsifying them, so that they can travel through your digestive system more easily.

So that the Omega-3 fatty acids are then transported by the lymphatic system, oils travelling through your body via lymph ducts.

Just be certain from now on to have a salad with each and every meal. Make fruit the snack to reach for and take your Omega rich oil supplements every day mixed with a healthy fruit juice.

However you must be certain you take the most beneficial Omega-3 Fatty Acids, the very best and most pure of EPA and DHA.

To receive the many benefits of DHA you have to consider ensuring that you do as follows:

1.Find a source of fish oil that is high in DHA or alternatively is prepared to take much higher doses of Fish oil.

2.Ensure that the Fish Oil you use is molecularly distilled.

3.Try to find your fish oil in the “Ester form for better bio availability.

As a helpful hint, I can tell you where you can find an oil, which stands head and shoulders above all the rest and meets all this criteria.

One company produces an Omega 3 fish oil product/extract that uses only a cold, deep-water fish known as the Hoki that comes from the Southern Ocean of New Zealand. We all know New Zealand is naturally pollution free and clean.

The Southern Ocean at this latitude (unlike its northern counterpart) is not exposed to any form of industrial pollutants, but nonetheless the fish still goes through extensive molecular distillation processes to remove any form of contamination at all, whether that be natural or man made. We were also fortunate that the fish selected is also naturally high in DHA making it even more attractive.

Why not find out and decide for yourself. In good health.

Do You Know About the Benefits of Green Tea Extract?

Posted under Fish Oil Supplement

The benefits of green tea extract may be accompanied by risks if the dosage is too high.  Other nutrients must be present at the same time, in order to avoid these risks.  In other words, supplements that contain only the tea extracts and nothing else are not your best choice.

The studies concerning the potential toxicity of the catechins found in green tea were conducted in the same manner as those that describe the benefit.  It was found that at high doses, the catechins were toxic to liver cells and caused the depletion of glutathione, an important tri-peptide that also acts as an antioxidant.

Judging by all of the research that has been done, it seems that some antioxidants are important to some parts of the body, but not to others.  So, there must be a balance.  One of the benefits of green tea extract is to protect the stomach, throat and prostrate from cancer.  Glutathione, on the other hand, prevents oxidative stress to the heart and the brain.  Resveratrol, another antioxidant, protects the cells of the breast, skin, colon and pancreas from free radical damage that can lead to cancer.

Basically, we need all of these antioxidants, if we want to live a long healthy life, but we don’t want to overdo it.  According to respected scientists, to get the benefits of green tea extract, with no risk, the daily dosage should be 100mg per day.  If you see a supplement that contains more than that, don’t buy it.

There are, of course, some that advocate mega-doses of vitamins and higher dosages may be appropriate for treating certain diseases, but as a maintenance dose, 100mg per day is perfect.  You get the catechins, but not enough to cause damage to the liver or the depletion of glutathione.

Levels of glutathione are known to decrease with age, so supplementation is necessary and important, particularly if you are also taking extracts from green teas.  But, until recently, there was a problem.  Regular glutathione cannot be used by the cells and is useless if it is released in the stomach, as it would be with normal capsules or tablets.  So, you need to look for supplements that contain “reduced” glutathione of low molecular weight and the tablet should have an enteric coating to prevent stomach acid from making it useless.

If you wanted the benefits of green tea extract, reduced glutathione and resveratrol, as well as the nutrients that your body requires to function on a daily basis, you could buy five or six different bottles or you could look for a multi-nutritional supplement that contains all of these things.  I always like to get the best value for my money, so I choose a multi-ingredient supplement and I take an omega3 Fish Oil supplement, so that all of my bases are covered.

The benefits of green tea extract are greater than those that you get from drinking tea all day, but remember to shop carefully and read the label.  Too much of a good thing can be bad for you. If you have a few minutes to spare, please take a look at my website now.

Try Superfood for a Healthy Circulatory System

Posted under Fish Oils

Circulation problems can be felt in a number of ways. Some symptoms include fatigue due to poor circulatory function, which may bring on other symptoms such as dizziness and fainting. The inability to concentrate, coldness in the hands or feet, headaches, angina, and high blood pressure are also other signs there could be problems with the circulation system. There are nutritionally-dense foods we can incorporate into our diets to ensure our circulatory system is functioning at its best.

If your circulation is poor, it is vital that the vitamin C content of the body is kept up, because it will help prevent hardening of the arteries and arterial ballooning. Citrus fruits, red berries, tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, red and green bell peppers, cabbage, and spinach are all great vitamin C foods sources, and it helps promote a healthy immune system and is required to help make collagen, which holds cells together, which is vital in maintaining the integrity and strength of the arteries and veins.

Leafy green vegetables, almonds, hazelnuts, and vegetable oils like sunflower, canola, and soybean are all great sources of antioxidants, which are widely recognized for their ability to ward off diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Other great sources include broccoli, cabbage and kale.

Nuts are high in beneficial, unsaturated fatty acids and research shows a correlation between nut consumption and a reduced incidence of ischemic heart disease. Walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts are very high in these needed fatty acids.

Fish oils as in sardines and may help to improve or reverse atherosclerosis, angina, heart attack, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. Fish Oils help maintain the elasticity of artery walls, prevent blood clotting, reduce blood pressure and stabilize heart rhythm.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects body tissue from damage caused by unstable substances called free radicals. Free radicals can harm cells, tissues, and organs can cause damage to the cell walls of the vessels in the circulatory system. Vitamin E is also important in the formation of red blood cells. Wheat germ, corn, nuts, seeds, olives, spinach, and asparagus are all wonderful vitamin E food sources.
